A Year with Moray Reach Out

Sep 23, 2022

Hi, I’m Megan and I’m Moray Reach Out’s Digital Support Worker. I was hired last September on a one year fixed term contract and have been lucky enough to be offered a full time, permanent position with the charity. Essentially, my job role involves anything and everything digital and keeping up-to-date with all the projects within MRO.

Describe MRO in 3 words

Welcoming, positive & interesting

What has been your favourite task at MRO so far?

Personally, the best task was the creation of the new website. Once digital routes had laid the framework, I was excited to get stuck in and create a website design that we felt best suited MRO. It was an extensive project and required a lot of research from my side as I had never edited the back-end of a website to this degree but that is what made it super interesting and a great experience for me. I got to learn a whole new set of skills whilst putting them into practice in real-time. Now the website is completed it, of course, needs regular updates, new information, photos etc which I’m always happy to do.

What is the MRO team like?

I can honestly say that the MRO team is an absolute joy to work with. When I started back in September, I was immediately welcomed by everyone and was given all the help I required to get started. No matter which project I visit, there are always smiling faces and laughter which is a truly lovely environment to be in. All members of the MRO team have a shared vision of making a positive impact on peoples’ lives and helping anyone where possible.

Do you enjoy being part of MRO?

Yes, 100%. As cheesy as this may sound, we are like one big family.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of joining MRO?

It is definitely worth contacting us to arrange a visit. There are so many different projects at MRO that we have something of interest to the majority. If we don’t have job vacancies at the time of your interest, then you can always enquire about volunteering.
