Today is Earth Day (22nd April 2024) and we can’t help but feel excited about how this annual celebration of our planet aligns with the values and mission of Moray Reach Out (MRO). Earth Day is not just a date on the calendar; it’s a global movement that unites people from all walks of life to champion environmental causes and inspire positive change. This year’s Earth Day theme, “Planet vs. Plastics,” couldn’t be more relevant to our work here at MRO.
Each Earth Day carries a unique theme, focusing attention on critical environmental issues and galvanising action. In 2022 and 2023, the themes were “Invest in Our Planet,” emphasising the importance of sustainable investments and initiatives. Now, in 2024, the spotlight is on tackling one of the most pressing challenges of our time: plastic pollution.
Plastic waste poses a significant threat to our environment, wildlife, and human health. At Moray Reach Out, we understand the impact of plastic pollution and are committed to making a difference. MRO are delighted to share that we’ve made some updates to our recycling efforts. While we are no longer collecting plastic bottle caps separately, you can leave them on the bottles or cartons when placing them in the recycling bin. Instead, we are now focusing on collecting aluminium packaging! ♻️
We are actively seeking clean aluminium packaging for recycling. Examples include aluminium cans, foil, and trays. Please ensure that these items are clean before donating them. Your contributions will go a long way in reducing waste and promoting sustainability within our community.
Our social enterprises, which include recycling and woodwork projects, align perfectly with the Earth Day 2024 theme. Through initiatives like our Thrift Shop and Recycling projects, we are not only diverting plastics from landfills but also raising awareness about the importance of sustainable practices.
Our trainees, who are at the heart of everything we do, gain valuable skills and experiences while contributing to a cleaner, greener future. Earth Day is a reminder that each of us has a role to play in preserving our planet. Whether it’s reducing single-use plastics, supporting local initiatives like ours, or advocating for policy changes, we can all make a difference. Together, we can tip the balance in favour of our “Planet vs. Plastics.”🌿🌱
