Yvonne’s Journey to Creating a Beautiful Cushion

At Moray Reach Out (MRO), we’re passionate about empowering individuals to develop new skills and achieve remarkable things. Today, we celebrate Yvonne’s fantastic accomplishment in creating a stunning cushion from scratch, entirely by herself, in just eight days. This was Yvonne’s first time making a pillow, and her dedication and creativity have truly shone through. Let’s take a look at the steps she followed to bring her vision to life.

1. Choosing the Design

Every great project starts with a vision. Yvonne began by selecting a design that spoke to her, one that would be both challenging and rewarding to bring to life. Her choice set the tone for the entire project.

2. Selecting the Fabric

Next, she carefully picked out the perfect fabric. This crucial step involved considering the texture, colour, and pattern that would best complement her chosen design.

3. Cutting Out the Fabric

With the design and fabric ready, it was meticulously cut into pieces to create her cushion. Precision was key here, ensuring that each piece would fit together seamlessly.

4. Hand Sewing the Appliqué

Yvonne then appliquéd her design onto the base material, sewing each piece by hand. This delicate process required patience and a steady hand, as she brought her design to life one stitch at a time.

5. Quilting with the Sewing Machine

To add texture and dimension, she quilted the areas around her design using a sewing machine. This step not only enhanced the cushion’s appearance but also added a touch of professional craftsmanship.

6. Assembling the Cushion Cover

Creating the cushion cover involved attaching the back to three sides of the cushion front. Yvonne expertly stitched these pieces together, forming the main structure of the cushion cover.

7. Inserting the Cushion Pad

With the cover complete, the cushion pad was inserted, ensuring it was perfectly positioned for maximum comfort and fluffiness.

8. Hand Sewing the Final Seam

Finally, Yvonne hand-sewed the last seam to close the cushion, ensuring that the cushion pad would stay securely inside. This last step completed her beautiful creation, ensuring that her hard work would be durable and long-lasting.

Celebrating Yvonne’s Achievement

Yvonne’s journey from selecting the design to completing the cushion is a testament to her hard work, creativity, and skill. She tackled each step with determination and care, resulting in a beautiful cushion that she can be incredibly proud of. Her success not only highlights her personal achievement but also embodies the spirit of Moray Reach Out—empowering individuals to learn, grow, and create with confidence.

We are immensely proud of Yvonne and look forward to seeing what she creates next. Her cushion is more than just a decorative item; it is a symbol of her dedication and the supportive environment at MRO that helps our trainees thrive.
