MRO Thrift Shop: Discovering Treasures

Feb 1, 2024

Embark on a journey of empowerment and community at Moray Reach Out’s Thrift Shop! This blog is an invitation to parents and care workers, urging them to consider Moray Reach Out as the ideal day service for adults with disabilities. Discover the vibrant world of our Thrift Shop, where generosity, creativity, and community converge.

From Monday to Friday, our dedicated team of staff, volunteers, and trainees breathes life into our shop. Tonnes of items, generously donated by the local community, find new purpose on our shelves. From second-hand clothing to unique collectables, homewares, books, and children’s toys, there’s always a treasure waiting to be discovered.

🛒 What Our Trainees Get Up To:

Explore the behind-the-scenes magic as trainees actively participate in various activities:

  • Stocking up the Shop Floor: Trainees play a pivotal role in maintaining our vibrant shop floor, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for all.
  • Dressing the Mannequins: With an eye for style, trainees showcase their creativity by dressing the mannequins, adding a touch of flair to our displays.
  • Sorting Donations: Assisted by staff and volunteers, trainees handle the entire process of sorting donations – pricing, organising, and hanging clothes with care.
  • Literacy and Numeracy Skills: Assisting at the Tills: Trainees enhance their literacy and numeracy skills by assisting volunteers and staff at the tills, gaining real-world experience.
  • Refreshers Training: Periodic fire drill refreshers ensure a safe environment for everyone involved.
  • Enhanced Social Skills through Public Interaction: One of the unique aspects of the Thrift Shop experience is the opportunity for trainees to interact with the public. These interactions not only contribute to the vibrant atmosphere of our creative space but also serve as a platform for trainees to enhance their social skills, fostering confidence and connection.
  • Arts and Crafts: Engaging in various arts and crafts projects, trainees express their creativity and contribute to the unique offerings of our shop.

Before You Donate: Quality and Cleanliness Guidelines 🛍️

We deeply appreciate your generosity! To ensure your donations have the most significant impact, please consider the following guidelines:

  • Clean Items Before Donating: Run clothing and textiles through the washing machine. For solid-surface items, a quick wipe-down can remove dust and grime.
  • Quality Matters: Ensure clothing is free of stains, holes, and excessive wear. Check the functional and cosmetic condition of homeware, accessories, toys, and books.

By adhering to these guidelines, you help maintain the quality of our offerings, making the Thrift Shop a valuable resource for our community.

Gift Aid: Making Your Support Go Further 🎁

Support our mission by signing up for Gift Aid when you donate. It’s a government scheme that allows us to reclaim tax on your donations, making your support go even further. For every £1 you donate, we can claim an extra 25p at no extra cost to you! Ask our friendly staff about Gift Aid, and fill out a short form to join us in empowering lives.
