MRO Recycling
We would also like to mention the great team work from the MRO Recycling Elgin team who helped out at Buckie.
It provided great opportunities for trainees to work in a different environment and make new friends.
The Buckie processing is now up to date and the yard is looking good thanks to the efforts of all the MRO Recycling trainees & staff.
Partnerships
Eight Acres Hotel and Spa
(Elgin)
We are overjoyed with the community spirit in Moray and thrilled with our new partnership. By using our services, organisations help Moray Reach Out give adults with disabilities a real sense of purpose and pride.
Our MRO Upcycling team delivered this beautiful, handcrafted picnic bench to the Eight Acres Hotel and Spa in Elgin to General Manager, Wimpie Blatt. This is the first of 10 ordered by the hotel. 😅
Wimpie and his team have exciting plans for an outdoor eating space in the grounds of the hotel where these benches will feature. More information as things develop!
We would also like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Eight Acres Hotel and Spa for their generosity in having the MRO Elgin Recycling team across for a morning of snooker & billiards.
They all had a fantastic time and the complimentary snacks of bacon rolls (and more) were very much appreciated too. 😍
Events
Swap shop
Moray College UHI – Social Sciences students organised a fantastic Swap Shop during March. 😅 ( Last day is Tuesday 21st March – 2pm to 4pm)
How does it work? People could come in and help themselves to items, donate items OR make a cash donation.
Shona Radojkovic popped along to meet and thank Anne, Elaine, Keely, Alan, Kartney, Conor and Anna.
All funds raised from the initiative were donated to R-evolution for Good and Moray Reach Out.
Transition Town Forres
On Thursday 16th March Transition Town Forres held their fifth Climate Café, focusing on waste and recycling in Moray.
Beginning at 6pm with a dinner of Medine’s Healthy Mediterranean Food, the evening continued with speakers from 7pm talking for 10-minutes each.
Afterward, speakers moved to more intimate tables to continue the conversation, share ideas, knowledge and inspiration.
Speakers:
George Gunn, Climate Change Strategy Officer, Moray Council; Eveline Rodenburg on food and garden composting; Catriona Scott on single-use packaging, Highland Community Waste Partnership; and Megan Fairley, Moray Reach Out, recycling and upcycling for people with disabilities.
We felt honoured to be involved in such a fantastic evening.

Bon Voyage
At the end of February, we said farewell to Phill Laurie from MRO Recycling.
We thank him for all his years of dedication with us and wish him all the best.
All of our projects continue to do great work for the environment. Our trainees are very proud to be part of such projects, re-use and recycling being the main elements of the reduce, re-use and recycle mantra.
