Recycle & Empower: MRO Elgin Recycling

Jan 19, 2024

Welcome to Moray Reach Out’s Elgin Recycling project, where we turn your purple bins into a force for both environmental change and community support. In this blog post we showcase the impactful work our team does in processing recyclables and fostering valuable skills among our trainees.

🌿 Processing for a Purpose:

Our dedicated team takes the contents of your purple bins, including cans, tins, and plastic containers, and transforms them into compact bales. This not only contributes to the well-being of our environment but also plays a crucial role in supporting our local community.

👷 Trainees on the Frontlines:

Our trainees play a vital role on the picking lines, meticulously sorting through the materials and removing anything that doesn’t belong. Your thoughtful sorting at home makes a significant difference in streamlining our recycling process. It’s a hands-on experience that empowers our trainees while promoting environmental responsibility.

Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Helping with Maintenance Checks: Trainees actively participate in maintenance checks, contributing to the smooth operation of our recycling processes.
  • Literacy and Numeracy Skills: Daily tasks involve allocating responsibilities and tallying up accomplishments at the end of each day, enhancing literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Health and Safety Focus: Regular completion of health and safety booklets ensures that our team is well-versed in procedures, prioritizing a safe working environment.
  • Fire Drills and First Aid Training: Periodic refresher training on fire drills and first aid ensures that our team is prepared for any situation.
  • Diverse Tasks on the Shop Floor: Trainees engage in diverse tasks off the production line, gaining valuable skills and contributing to the overall efficiency of the facility.
  • Monitoring and Removing Landfill Products: A crucial role involves monitoring the variety of products that come through the line from the Moray community. Trainees work to remove landfill products, allowing our machines to effectively separate recyclable items for baling.
  • Celebrating Achievements: Recognition of trainee achievements is an essential part of our program, fostering a positive and encouraging atmosphere.
  • Wellness and Outdoor Activities: From walks to planting outside—tomatoes, green beans, strawberries—trainees actively participate in nurturing and maintaining our outdoor spaces, fostering a connection with nature.

Choosing MRO Recycling means not only supporting an impactful recycling initiative but also contributing to the personal and professional development of our trainees.
