Spring 2022

Time for your seasonal update
& there is exciting news to share!

MRO NEWS

Spring is here!

Moray Reach Out has some great news to share with you all. We were successful with an application to the National Lottery Community Fund for 2 x 25-hour posts for our MRO Art Yarn (Spinning) and MRO Upcycling projects. Not just for one year, but for three years.   The advert can be seen below.  Please feel free to share within your networks. These posts will be filled ready to start in July. There is also £7000 towards tools and equipment for the projects. The total funding will be £94,000 over the 3 years.

Our application to Digital Boost was also successful and we will be using the 50% funding to create a new website to help our followers and customers access the information they need, ideally within 3 clicks!

We are fundraising to develop the next stage of the garden via a Spring Raffle. See details below. Buckie High School have also approached us as an option to nominate for their YPI project. We thank Buckie High pupils and wish them well with their presentations and the competition to win £3000 towards their chosen charity.

For Spring, our MRO Upcycling team have been busy preparing seed trays, planters and herb boxes. These are beautiful and are for sale at our premises, and through our online shop. So useful, yet attractive and all hand-crafted by an MRO trainee, project assistant or volunteer. The name of the person who made the item is on the MRO Product label, a special touch to recognise their work.
Our Embroidery team have created an environmentally-friendly sandwich wrap, which can be washed and re-used. No more cling film waste!  What a great idea and at a very reasonable price.

The Yarns and Crafts team continue to stock amazing yarn, something for most knitting or crocheting projects. There will be more workshops delivered for those wishing to learn to knit or crochet, but we will wait until things settle down with regards COVID.

MRO Recycling and MRO Thrift continue to do great work for the environment.   Our trainees are very proud to be part of such projects, re-use and recycling being the main elements of the reduce, re-use and recycle mantra.

Moray Reach Out has been awarded funding by the National Lottery Community Fund for 2 x 25+ hours positions for 3 years, which is super exciting!

We have now become a member of Circular Communities Scotland.

They are very friendly and helpful.

Spring Raffle

We are holding a Spring Raffle that will be drawn on the 12th of May to raise money to aid us with the development of our garden to enhance our training opportunities and community experience. In particular, we are looking to raise money to create a wheelchair-accessible and eco-friendly conservation area for our staff, volunteers and trainees and the public on any open days we hold. This will allow us to create a new gardening project for our trainees which will expand the type of work experience we can provide.

We have so many great prizes so far.
Our top three (above), £45 Beauty Voucher from MK Nailland, £20 Voucher at Grampian Hotel in Keith, Walker’s hamper, Wines, Whiskies and many more.

If you wish to to purchase tickets (£1 per ticket), pop along to one of our shops and pick some up. Not only will you be helping us raise money for an amazing cause but you may also win one of our fantastic prizes!
