Spring 2026

Moray Reach Out helps adults with disabilities gain a real sense of purpose and pride

🌸Hello, Spring!🌸

As the days grow brighter and the first signs of Spring begin to appear, there’s a wonderful sense of renewal here at Moray Reach Out. This year feels especially meaningful for us, as 2026 marks a remarkable milestone – 25 years since Moray Reach Out became an incorporated Scottish charity.

Originally constituted as a Scottish charity 30 years ago, and later incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee 25 years ago, Moray Reach Out has grown into a trusted and valued organisation at the heart of the Moray community. For a quarter of a century, we have proudly supported adults with disabilities to live lives filled with purpose, pride, and belonging.

To celebrate this incredible journey, we have launched a year-long community campaign: The MRO Journey – Join the Circle of Giving, with a shared goal of raising £25,000 to help secure and grow our future.

This campaign is about more than fundraising. It’s about celebrating our journey so far, recognising the people who helped shape it, and inviting our community to be part of the next chapter. Throughout 2026, we’ll be hosting a variety of events and activities to mark our 25th year and help us reach our goal.

Alongside this exciting milestone year, our trainees and teams have been busy as always, from creative projects to community activities, and we’re excited to share some of the wonderful stories and updates with you in this newsletter.

As we step into Spring and begin this special anniversary year, we look forward to celebrating, connecting, and continuing to make a positive difference together.

🌍 Around the World for MRO 🌍

We are excited to have launched Around the World for MRO, a community movement challenge as part of our Circle of Giving Campaign.

Together, we’re aiming to see how many times we can circle the world – one mile at a time. Every 25,000 miles logged equals one journey around the Earth, and every mile completed helps contribute to our collective total.

Participants choose their own mileage goal and can complete miles in any way that works for them, including walking, running, cycling, swimming, wheelchair mobility, gym equipment, or other distance-based activities. Whether you complete 5 miles or 150 miles, every mile counts.

Participants are also encouraged to seek sponsorship from friends, family, or colleagues, helping us work towards our £25,000 fundraising goal to continue supporting adults with disabilities to build confidence, develop skills, and grow in independence. Ready to get involved?

🐣 MRO Community Easter Egg Hunt 2026 🐣

Get ready for some egg-citing family fun this Easter! Moray Reach Out will be hosting two separate Easter Egg Hunts across Elgin and Buckie town centres, giving families the chance to explore local shops, hunt for colourful eggs, and even discover the Golden Egg. ✨🥚

Families can take part between Monday 30th March and Friday 3rd April, with participation forms available from Monday 23rd March. Forms can be collected from the Moray Reach Out shop in your town or can be downloaded from our FB Event page.

☕ MRO Coffee Morning Fundraiser ☕

As part of our 25th anniversary fundraising campaign, The MRO Journey: Join the Circle of Giving, we will be hosting a Coffee Morning on Friday 28th March at the North Church.

This will be a lovely opportunity for our community to come together, enjoy a cuppa, and support the ongoing work of Moray Reach Out. There will also be a raffle on the day, and we would be very grateful for any donations towards the raffle.

We would also warmly welcome donations of home-baked goods to sell at the coffee morning. If you would like to contribute, baked items can be dropped off at MRO Buckie, 23 East Church Street, Buckie on Friday, 27th March.

Every contribution, big or small, helps make events like this a success.

All funds raised will go towards our £25,000 Circle of Giving campaign goal, helping Moray Reach Out continue to support trainees in building confidence, developing skills, growing in independence, and feeling proud of their achievements. 💛

After the fantastic success of the past couple of years, we are delighted to be returning to the Gordon Castle Highland Games on Sunday 17th May.

Embroidery Expansion

We’re delighted to share that Moray Reach Out Embroidery is expanding to our Buckie shop. This is an exciting step for our team, and we’re looking forward to bringing this creative service to even more people in the community.

Once the new embroidery corner is ready, we’ll be hosting a live demonstration, giving visitors the chance to see the process in action and learn more about what our team can create.

It’s still early days, but we’re very excited about what’s ahead and can’t wait to share more updates soon – so keep an eye out for further details! 👀✨

New Health & Wellbeing Project

We’re delighted to share that Moray Reach Out has received funding from The Moray Communities Health & Wellbeing Fund to support a one-year, part-time Healthier Lives Coordinator role, now being carried out in-house by Megan Fairley.

Healthier Lives is an initiative designed to improve the health and wellbeing of adults with disabilities, particularly those with learning disabilities, mental health challenges, or at risk of social isolation. The project will provide accessible information and training on key wellbeing topics, including:

Mental and physical health

Evidence-based nutrition

Inclusive access to sport and recreation

Online Safety

Healthy Relationships

Challenging Stigma

Ensuring Meaningful Inclusion

Adults with disabilities experience the same health and well-being challenges as everyone else, but they often face additional barriers due to their disability. Healthier Lives aims to break down these barriers by sharing information and resources in accessible, bite-sized formats, ensuring that everyone in Moray who could benefit is able to access support, learn new skills, and feel included.

This project is an exciting step towards building a healthier, more connected, and supportive community for all our trainees and participants. 💛

JTPB Fund

We’re thrilled to share that Moray Reach Out has successfully received funding from the JTPB Fund! A huge thank you to everyone who voted for us – we’re proud to be one of 37 inspiring green projects funded across the North East of Scotland this year.

This funding will allow us to create a greener, healthier space for adults with disabilities in Moray. Plans include improved ventilation and new sensory garden features, designed to support wellbeing, sustainability, and a calm, welcoming environment where everyone feels valued and connected. 💚

Thank you for supporting our community and helping us grow a greener future together!

Love & Co Wedding Fayre

In February, we were thrilled to take part in the Love & Co Wedding Show at Elgin Academy, and it was a fantastic day meeting so many lovely couples and visitors.

During the event, we showcased our woodworking team’s beautiful range of handcrafted taster items, designed to inspire ideas for weddings – from unique favours to bespoke centrepieces and decorative pieces. It was wonderful to highlight the creativity and skill of our talented trainees.

It was a great opportunity to chat with people about how our team can create custom, handcrafted pieces tailored to individual wedding styles and ideas, helping make each celebration truly special.

We had a wonderful time connecting with the community and sharing what Moray Reach Out can offer, and we’d like to thank everyone who stopped by to say hello.
