About Us
At Moray Reach Out, we help adults with learning disabilities discover their strengths, build confidence, and feel a real sense of purpose and pride.
We provide safe, welcoming spaces where individuals can grow, learn new skills, and take part in meaningful work placements. Whether they’re creating handmade products, supporting our recycling efforts, or helping out in our shops, every trainee plays a vital role in our community – with the encouragement of our dedicated staff and volunteers.
Our trainees enjoy social interaction, working as part of a team, and giving back to their local community. And in turn, they help change perceptions – showing just how much people with disabilities can achieve when given the right opportunities.
Who We Are
Moray Reach Out (MRO) is a vibrant Scottish charity founded in 1996 by a group of passionate parents and carers in Buckie. What began as a small initiative offering outings and respite through our ‘Take a Break’ project has since grown into a thriving organisation with a wide range of projects and social enterprises.
Our mission is simple: to empower adults with learning disabilities through training, support, and opportunity. We aim to boost confidence, develop skills, and promote independence, with the ultimate goal, where possible, of helping individuals move into supported employment or more independent living.
Since our early days, we’ve continued to grow. In 1999, we opened our first yarn and craft shops in Buckie and Elgin, teaching valuable retail and creative skills. Then in 2001, thanks to Big Lottery funding, we launched our recycling centre, opening up new opportunities in a more industrial work setting.
What We Do
Today, MRO offers over 100 training places every week to around 50 individuals across a range of projects, including:
MRO Yarns & Crafts
MRO Embroidery
MRO Recycling (Buckie & Elgin)
MRO Thrift Shop
MRO Art Yarn
MRO Woodwork
Each project combines training with trading, giving our trainees real work experience while offering high-quality products and services to the public.
Every sale and every recycled can helps build someone’s confidence and supports their journey.
Our vision is: “Empowering Lives!”
We believe in doing with, not for. Our motto says it all:
“Change mindsets by never underestimating people; we do with, not for, and we always encourage them to give it a go.”
